Catching Up + Learning Age is Not an Excuse

It's been a very exhausting day! How is it only Monday? It was one of those insanely busy days where you feel like you haven't achieved much. I'm trying hard to be as organised as I can. Last week I planned what I was going to wear each day for a week. It was great; it saved me a great deal of time!

Anyway, I'm finally going for my P's this Friday, and I've told too many people about it to fail! I've convinced myself I'll go to the gym more often once I have my licence but most likely I'll just end up buying lots of takeaway. Hello maccas drive thru!

Last night I went to a book launch. Liam's 92-year old grandma, Marjorie Darling Ward, has just published a book called 'Three Chords and the Truth'. You can buy it on Amazon. It's a story set in the Australian outback, cobbled with wonderful musical references to Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen. The book launch was great. It was full of her creative writing friends, family and long term admirers. We're all very proud of Marjorie. It's just shows you how you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it. Age is no barrier.

Over the weekend, I was discussing what to do with my hair with Liam's sister and sister-in-law. I want to go blonde this winter and since Liam's sister and mum are both blonde, I got them to drape their hair over my face to see what I'd look like if I was blonde. The result, in my opinion, looks kind of cool, but I've had so many of my friends say I shouldn't go blonde. That's not going to stop me though. I'll probably do it anyway and if I hate it then I can always dye it black. My only concern is having hair fall out in clumps.

Also, Liam's mum, Diana, gave me a bag of her second had clothes from the 80s. I've been dying to suss out her old wardrobe, which she has horded for decades. She was quite the trendsetter back in the day! She still is, I'd say. She rocked an ivory suit at the book launch. She was clearing out some of her old clothes and handed me some "vintage" Sportsgirl and Just Jeans. It's very cool! I haven't tried them on yet but if nothing fits, I'll be passing them on to friends. The shorts are TINY. They're meant to be a size 12 but they're probably a size 4 - 6. I don't know if I'm game enough to wear the cropped top. It's so cute though!

Have you been given a special item of clothing? Please share!

Sordid attempts at creating the illusion of long hair

I used to have some mighty long hair. Then I cut it because I wanted to look like Sara Quin from Tegan and Sara. Then I wanted my long hair back, but I couldn't stand the hair-growing-out-of-hair-style phase so I kept cutting it. Then I was adamant that my hair was to grow long because I wanted to do a top knot like all the pretty girls in Melbourne. So that's where I am now.

My hair presently looks like this:

It's short, and in a weird/bad shape style-wise. BUT I can finally tie it up! And so now, all I've been doing is creating the illusion that I actually have long hair.

Observe:

Ta-da!

Yes, my blue steel is AMAZING.

Poke your face

I just read about some hair style in Cleo. I attempted it and while it doesn't look anything like the hair the model has (probably because my hair is straight), it still looks kinda cool. It's like a quiff, but using all of your hair.

Hooray to camwhoring!

love don't cost a thing

My hair is pretty long at the moment. Long and severely damaged, it seems. I've been contemplating cutting my hair but I've decided that unless I drastically cut it short, my hair will still be a damaged mess.

I've decided what my short hair will look like too. It's sort of a hybrid between Karla's hair from Karla's Closet and a bit of something else that I can't really describe. I guess it would be a bit longer. I'll probably dye it too, probably some sort of brown or purple. There will be no real fringe. This is going to be fun.

I've made myself believe that summer time is the time for long hair and that winter is best for short hair. I'm wrong and right, of course. There's no rule for it. Your hair will look just as awesome in summer as it does in winter.

Rock on!

Slug

I hate when you dress up in something that requires you to not eat for a few hours to look good in it and you end up eating heaps because of said non-eating. That happened today. See, I've realised that because I am not exactly skinny, I have to make sure I am decently unstuffed of food to look good in them high-waisted shorts.

Anyway, I've decided that I should at least work in a few sessions at the gym when I get to Singapore. There's a gym at the hotel and it's a pretty decent one too so I should take advantage of it when I am not shopping, not eating or not hanging out with people. That way, I can keep in shape and because it's free (ish), I might feel compelled to use it as much as possible.

I think that's fair. I think I will do that.

Here is my "itinerary" for my first day at Singapore:

- Land in Singapore
- Take the shuttle bus or the MRT to the hotel room
- Check in
- Book an appointment for a hair cut
- Depending on my hunger, either go shopping or eat
- find Topshop
- Explore Wisma Atria, Far East Plaza, Ngee Ann City, The Hereen, Orchard Shopping Centre
- Get postcards at Singapore's visitors centre (depends if they do postcards)
- Go back to the hotel
- Change into "gym" wear
- Go exercise for an hour or more
- Go shower
- Blog about my day/Topshop

I like my list. This is going to be awesome.

The Slutty Pumpkin

Christmas shopping list:

Family:
For Mum: earrings from Mocha
For Dad: Bunnings gift voucher
For Brother: EB Games gift voucher

Friends:
A 'Slumdog Millionaire' DVD
A 'Kung Pow' DVD and a head band
A pearl necklace and a head band
A pair of earrings from Mocha or 'A Walk to Remember' DVD

That's all I've got so far. I think when I go shopping I'll figure out what to get others. Anyway, I don't have a clue what to get my partner. I was going to get him a Jean Paul Gaultier perfume shaped like a man's torso but I just can't afford it, which is lame.

Here are some photos of last night's trivia battle. We came third. Which is lame.

fishy fishy fishy

OK this is an actual fish tail braid.

empty in between

Actually guys, just a memo. The braid I did below is not a "french braid", as I have stated there. I don't think I have the ability to ever master that. What I meant was, That's just a normal plait, and my fish tail looked like the reverse version of it.

Anyway, I had many attempts at it and Ive concluded that the reason my fish braid doesn't look like the ones on the internet is because the strands I use to weave this fish tail is way too thick. But that's cool.

I can fishtail now!

Hmm. I think my hair doesn't look very fishtail-y because it's black. All the models I've seen with fishtail braids have light hair.

OHHH!!!!

Let's make December fishtail month!!!
