Playing with my new 50 mm lens

TV Ban Day Four

I went to my friend Karmen's graduation today. It was great fun. Got home at a reasonable time and felt the urge to edit these photos. I took them with the Nikon D7000 with a 50mm lens, edited using Photoshop. I bought the lens in Singapore airport for SG$317! There were some awesome Sigma lenses but since I'm still relatively new to prime lenses, I thought I'd stick with this one. I think it takes some really good portrait shots. I mainly bought this lens for low light situations (well, it's much better than any zoom lens). I took some photos of my parents as well, which look great. I can't wait to shoot some video with the lens.

I took these photos last Sunday, after I gave the dogs a bath. Lighting was great that day, and my dogs look so cute when they're nice and clean. Even though they hate having a bath, I know they feel better after having one.

  1. Ooooo I'm loving your doggy photos :D Take more!!! But I'm sad that you're a Nikon user. I love my Canon. :P But I totally understand the excitement about the 50mm, when I got it, I almost slept with it next to me and it didn't leave my bad for a very long time! Until I recently bought the Sigma 30mm..which well, isn't as great as my Canon 50mm but is better for my restaurant adventures~ mmmm

  2. I went out for dinner with my parents and family friends and I brought both lenses with me (zoom and 50mm). I had to keep changing the lens depending on what I was photographing. Is that something you do too?

    1. I used to do it a lot actually, I wanted to use the zoom to take photos of the restaurant and then the 50 was great for the food as I liked the blur in the background and it obviously takes way better photos in the dark...but as time went on, I've gotten used to just using the 50mm (and now it's my 30mm Sigma) because changing lenses annoys so many people! It's hard enough for me to take photos just with the prime. :( People need to understand a foodie's needs and deal with slightly colder food. :P

So now when you see my restaurant photos, all the restaurant interior/exterior ones are very zoomed in :S

    2. Haha yeah, it gets really frustrating. I don't take the camera out a lot because it's just so heavy and bulky and when you have several lenses, you freak out about accidentally breaking your lenses.

    1. Yeah lenses and general camera gear can get crazy expensive, so that's why I try to get all that stuff when I'm overseas at the airport.
